The official GoHighLevel credential is HighLevel Certified Admin: a $97/month or $970/year subscription with coursework (Part A) and a live proctored exam (Part B), hosted in a private certification community rather than HighLevel University. The badge is valid for two years as long as you keep the subscription active and earn two skills badges a year. It proves platform skill, not real-world client delivery. Cost, format, renewal and our study plan are covered below.
The GHL certification is worth getting. Not because it proves you can deliver for clients, it does not test that. It is worth getting because it forces you to learn modules you would otherwise skip.
Most GHL users learn the 20% of the platform that applies to their current clients and ignore the rest. The certification pushes you through the other 80%. That is where the value is.
HighLevel Certified Admin: Cost, Format and Renewal at a Glance
The official program is called HighLevel Certified Admin. It is the entry credential, and every other HighLevel badge is built on it. It is a paid subscription at $97 a month or $970 a year, separate from your GoHighLevel plan. A Starter, Unlimited or Agency Pro account does not include it.

How the two parts work
Part A is the learning phase. You work through the course material and complete the practical tasks inside the certification community.
Part B is the gate. It is a live, proctored session where you perform tasks in the platform instead of answering theory questions. Candidates commonly describe it as about an hour long, so working speed matters as much as knowledge.
The retake rule is strict. If you cannot pass the Live Proctor after three attempts, you must pass Part A again with a 95% score before you can book another attempt.
Skills Badges: The Certifications After Certified Admin
Passing the Live Proctor unlocks HighLevel’s specialized skills badges. They are not optional extras once you are certified, because earning at least two per year is how you keep your Admin status active. HighLevel lists tracks such as A2P Compliance and Course Creator.
The badge tracks HighLevel currently lists are:
- A2P Compliance: messaging compliance, A2P 10DLC registration and keeping verification in good standing
- Course Creator: building and growing communities, onboarding and engagement
- SaaSPRENEUR “Local Hero”: agency offers, tech setup, client acquisition and reputation management
- AI Employee: Voice AI and other AI tools for acquisition and fulfillment
- HIPAA Compliance: compliance essentials and customer data handling
- Paid Ads: lead sources, conversion tracking and campaign analysis
- Social Media Manager: planning and automating social posting
- Automated Swag Store: branded merch stores as a lead source
- Quick Wins: fast-deploy tools that show early results across the client journey
Pick badges that match the work you already sell. For many agencies, A2P Compliance is a practical first choice, because messaging registration is a common place for new sub-accounts to stall.
A HIPAA badge is a training credential about configuration and data handling. It does not make your agency or your client’s account HIPAA compliant by itself.

What the GoHighLevel Certification Program Tests
HighLevel does not publish an official module list or exam weighting. Instead of guessing at percentages, this is our study map: the platform areas we recommend being comfortable with before you book the live proctor. The areas below are the ones we would practice first.
- CRM and contacts: pipelines, custom fields, smart lists and tags
- Workflow automation: triggers, actions, branches and wait steps
- Funnels and websites: page builder, split testing and domain setup
- Calendars and booking: calendar types, round-robin and scheduling rules
- Email and SMS marketing: campaigns, list management and compliance
- Reputation management: review requests, Google integration and monitoring
- Reporting and analytics: dashboard widgets, attribution and campaign tracking
- SaaS Configurator: pricing plans, rebilling and sub-account controls
Study Plan: How to Pass the GHL Certification in 3 Weeks
You can pass the GHL certification in about 3 weeks with a steady plan. In week 1, work through the Certified Admin course in order and complete every Part A task. In week 2, build a real sub-account from scratch, and in week 3, fill gaps and rehearse setup tasks before booking the live proctor.
If you have zero GHL experience…
Week 1: Work through the Certified Admin course in the private certification community in order, completing every Part A task. Do not skip lessons, and note where each setting lives at agency and sub-account level. Week 2: Build a real sub-account from scratch: intake form, 3-stage pipeline, appointment workflow, email sequence, SMS follow-up. Week 3: Revisit the course lessons for any gaps, then rehearse common setup tasks against a timer before booking the live proctor, which candidates commonly report runs about an hour.
If you already use GHL but want the certification…
Focus on the modules you do not actively use. Experienced users are most often caught out by features they have never needed, such as the SaaS Configurator and reporting. Spend 60% of your prep time on unfamiliar modules and 40% on workflow edge cases. HighLevel designs the course to take 7 to 10 days at a steady pace, and experienced users often finish sooner.
If you failed the exam once already…
As soon as the session ends, write down which tasks slowed you down or stumped you. Build a practice sub-account focused specifically on those domains. Do not re-watch lessons for areas you handled comfortably. Target the weak areas with hands-on builds. Then book another live proctor attempt. If you cannot pass after three attempts, HighLevel requires you to pass Part A again with a 95% score before retaking it.
Expected Error, Course access not appearing after payment: Certification content is not in HighLevel University. After payment you are enrolled in a separate private certification community and sent welcome emails with access details. If you cannot find them, check your spam folder, then contact HighLevel support.
Critical Failure Points: Why People Fail the GHL Certification
Failure Point 1, Relying Only on Video Training: Course lessons cover the what, but the live proctor asks you to perform tasks in the platform under time pressure, and watching alone does not build that speed. Build 2 to 3 complete sub-accounts before attempting the exam.
Failure Point 2, Skipping the Compliance Sections: The email and SMS compliance questions, A2P 10DLC, TCPA opt-in language, unsubscribe handling, are part of the course material and are frequently skipped during prep. These are also the areas with the highest real-world consequence if you get them wrong. Study them regardless of how boring they seem.
The Consensus Break: The Certification Does Not Make You Billable
Standard GHL community advice: get certified, then charge premium rates. The certification validates knowledge. Clients who hire GHL experts pay for results, not badges. A portfolio of real, live sub-accounts you built will usually win more work than the certificate alone.
We have hired both certified and non-certified GHL operators for client projects. The correlation between certification status and delivery quality is weak. The correlation between number of live sub-accounts built and delivery quality is strong.
Get the certification for your own knowledge development. Do not price your services based on it.
Price them based on the outcomes you have delivered. The certification accelerates your learning, it does not replace experience. For practical training beyond the exam, see our GoHighLevel training programs and the GHL University guide.
The Certified Directory: What the Listing Gets You
The most tangible benefit of certification is the HighLevel Certified Directory. Certified Admins are listed there so that businesses, agencies and HighLevel’s own team can find and recommend them. For a new freelancer, that listing can be the first steady source of leads.
HighLevel also routes in-app job requests to Certified Admins, and some freelance opportunities are open only to certified professionals. HighLevel has publicly reported more than 1,000 directory leads in a single month, spread across a few hundred listed admins.
Keeping the listing alive
The listing depends on an active subscription. If the subscription ends, your certification goes inactive and your name is removed from the directory.
Completing your directory profile is optional, but an empty profile wastes the main reason to pay. We recommend filling in your niche, the services you offer and the time zone you work in, so the right inquiries reach you.
Is the cost worth it?
At $970 a year, one small setup project or a month of retainer work can cover it. The real question is whether you will actively use the directory, the badges and the community.
If you only want to learn the platform, HighLevel’s free resources and hands-on practice will take you far. If you want inbound work and a credential clients can check, Certified Admin is the only official route.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does the GoHighLevel certification take?
HighLevel designs the Certified Admin course to be completed in 7 to 10 days at a steady pace, and power users may finish sooner. Beginners should allow extra time for hands-on practice. The Part B live proctor is a separate session that candidates commonly report runs about an hour. After three failed live proctor attempts, you must pass Part A again with 95%.
Is the GoHighLevel certification worth it?
For your own knowledge development, yes. The certification forces you to learn modules you would otherwise skip, which makes you a more capable operator. For client acquisition, it helps, but a portfolio of live sub-accounts is more persuasive than a badge. For pricing justification, price on outcomes delivered, not certifications held.
Does GHL certification expire?
Yes, in effect. The Certified Admin badge is valid for two years from the date you pass the live proctor exam. To stay certified, you must earn at least two additional skills badges per year and keep your certification subscription active. If the subscription lapses, your certification goes inactive and your name is removed from the directory.
How much does GoHighLevel certification cost?
HighLevel Certified Admin costs $97 per month or $970 per year, and the annual option saves about 20%. It is a separate subscription from your GoHighLevel plan, so a Starter, Unlimited or Agency Pro account does not include it. Teams with more than 15 people can ask HighLevel’s account management team about enterprise pricing.
How do I get GoHighLevel certified?
Subscribe to the HighLevel Certification program and you will be added to a private certification community that hosts the coursework. Complete Part A, which mixes lessons with hands-on tasks. Then book and pass Part B, a live proctored exam. Passing earns the Certified Admin badge and a directory listing.
What happens if I fail the HighLevel certification exam?
You can attempt the Live Proctor exam again. HighLevel’s published rule is that after three failed attempts, you must pass Part A again with a score of 95% before you can retake the live proctor. Use the gap to practice the platform areas that slowed you down, timing yourself as you work.
Do I have to keep paying after I pass?
Yes, if you want to stay certified. The badge is valid for two years, but an active subscription is required to stay in the directory and keep access to new courses. If you cancel and re-enroll within 90 days, you can reactivate without retaking the Live Proctor. After 90 days, you must retake it.
